AUIS Will be Offering another Minor

by The Third Eye
The Middle East Studies minor will be offered soon based at AUIS. The most interesting part of that minor will be IST 3XX/HIS 301 Special Topics in Islamic Thought.  This is a ‘special topics’ course which students could take again as long as the topic as specified in the title AND as recorded and preserved in the registrar’s office was different.  In that way, different instructors could teach topics of their own interest, and it would provide students the opportunity to study a variety of topics.
For example, one semester, a student could take IST3XX/HST301 ‘Special Topics in Islamic Thought: Islamic Reform Movements (Jamal al-Din al-Afghani and Muhammad Abduh),’ and the next semester, an instructor could offer IST3XX/HST301 ‘Special Topics in Islamic Thought: Shari’ah.’  This might also appeal to study abroad students.
Below are the courses that each student will be taking after he/she decided to take the Middle East Studies minor.

Middle East Studies Minor (15 credit hours)

·         ART 102 Art and Politics
·         HIS 201 History of the Middle East
·         REL 202 Comparative World Religion
·         IST 30X/HIS 301 Special Topics in Islamic Thought
(this course can be repeated in lieu of LIT 304/403 and/or ART)
·         LIT 304 World Literature in Translationor LIT 403 Literature and Politicsor LIT 406 Creative Writing (Translation)

If you want that minor be offered by AUIS, let's take a second and vote for that minor. Choose the answer for the question that is provided in the Third Eye Pool.
