The Third Eye
Directly to the issue! AUIS professors, except few of
them, harshly disappointed many of their students at the end of the fall
semester. It seemed that they wanted to show their students and AUIS
administration their classes were so challenging that didn’t even let the
smartest students get not only As but also Bs and Cs.
The Third Eye both talked to many students and
followed many of their Facebook accounts right after the grades were announced
through Top School. Guess what? It was rare to see a student who positively
posted about his or her final grades. Whose fault was that, professors or
students themselves?
Some students blamed their professors for given Ds and
Cs and even Fs randomly based on their moods when they were grading the final
exams as the letters surprised many of them on Top School.
“So I got [two] A(s) in two midterm exams and did well
in the final!! Surprise, surprise, [I got ] D eventually!! When will AUI-S be a
man!! I can't believe how AUIS teachers give grades according to personal
matters!!!!” a student posted on his Facebook account.
Some others listed many As for their most challenging
classes, but Ds for the easiest ones.
“Me 5As and a [****] D+....” another student posted.
It appeared that not a single student left without
appealing to his or her several classes for getting way far grades than he or
she would ever expect. Why? Shouldn’t those professors take their students’
appeals into their serious considerations? If a student had A in his or her
classes until the final exam, shouldn’t at least he or she get a C or a B? It
is understandable that the final exams were worth more points than any other
midterm exams. However, it sounded very unusual when almost the entire class
went down from As and Bs to Ds and Fs. What a magical tale!
It is worth mentioning that some of the student’s
Facebook accounts indicated that some people in the AUIS administration had
already put their efforts and took the student’s sides to help them solve their
issues.
“The wheels are in motion from many students and I
believe this has already made it to the highest levels of the administration.
Write to him anyhow, just so that you are formally on record as requesting an
appeal. Please cc: Dr. Reagan as well.” A professor sent to one of the
students.
Yes, the students’ voices and concerns should be heard
by the AUIS administration and those professors who have given such random
grades need to be investigated by the chairs of each department. If professors
meant to have their challenging classes, they should have been serious and
challenging from the beginning to the end of the semester.
Many students blamed their professors for giving easy
exams and quizzes during the semester but made it far way challenging at the
end.
“Some of our professors give us take-home exams and
some of them provided us with elementary level exams during the semester,” a
student stated. “But, they made it very challenging in away that ask us many
challenging and unanswerable questions for the finals that they had never ever
explained during the regular classes.”
Some students claimed that Test bank has been the
master guide for many professors at AUIS.
“Some of the professors don’t bother themselves
forming the questions based on the materials they teach during regular classes,
but open up test bank and copy and paste questions right there that are well
prepared with their answers.” Another student sadly stated.
As the voice of many students at AUIS, the Third Eye
would like to kindly ask those professors who gave random grades to their
students to review and re-calculate their students’ grades and do not let those
hardworking students down. Along with that, the Third Eye also would appreciate
the chairs of each department to support those students whose appeals prove to
be taken into considerations. We also would like the chairs of departments and
even AUIS administration to have a sit with those professors who give their
students bad grades to show that their classes are challenging, those professors
who are so effortless that refuse to spend some of their times to form
questions but take exams directly from test bank, and those whose finals cannot
even be compared to their midterm exams and quizzes.
If those professors refuse to review and re-calculate
the student's grades during this week, appealing period, their names will be
mentioned and their performance of they way they teach will publicly be
evaluated! And, the Third Eye will never afraid of doing this as it will talk
with obvious evidences.
How dare AUIS giving me all D's on my grade. This is truly an outrage! They make it sound so easy and then at the end they make it really tough! This is so unfair. I will take this to the president and appeal my grades. how do I do this? I never received below a B before. How can I get a D? The teachers just didn't do their jobs at all. they are so bad for giving me a D!!!
ReplyDeleteI think if AUIS and people who hold themselves responsible, do not take these issues into highly considerations, then guess what? Let me officially inform you that AUIS's reputation is in real and serious danger!
ReplyDeleteI would like to add one more point to this amazing article; AUIS is not able to differentiate between different levels of performance. I put minimum amount of effort to my courses in the previous semester, and I got almost C. However, I put a lot of effort on the courses this semester, and my performance is really increased, and I got almost the same grades in average, but I want to be honest that my performance improvement had a result only in two courses; Human Resource Management and Business Ethics.
My point is that AUIS have to differentiate between individual performance and motivate students for better and better desired outcomes, otherwise, students will be left with huge disappointment and weak performance.
I want to thank the writer for bringing up this amazing article!
