Sunday, Nov. 24^th, 2013,- The Student Ambassadors for Peace (SAP)-AUIS Chapter,  held its first ever event at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani(AUI,S) and invited all of the AUIS students and faculty staff members to celebrate the anniversary of the International Tolerance  day .  

Hemin Salah, A Friendly Face at AUIS

If you walk to the AUIS register's office in the first floor of the AUIS presidency building, you will find a person who always has smile on his face. Hemin Salahaddin Essamaddin Muhammed, who is known among the AUIS community as Hemin Salah was born on Jan 6th, 1967, in Sulaimani. He graduated from the college of language at Sulaimani Univeristy and obtained his Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature in 2008 at the same university. He also holds a degree from Mosul Technical Institute in Mechanical Department. It is worth mentioning that Hemin was one of the top ten graduates of both colleges where he graduated. Salah is in the middle class family. He is married and has a four-year-old boy whose name is Hawlan.

The Third Eye Introduces all the Members of the AUIS Noor Cast

Mark the calendar. It is the AUIS Noor Company's moments. A group of the students of the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani, whose tears duct are active not to protect their eyes from dust, but to shed the light of their people who have experienced the most terrible circumstances a person can ever imagine. The AUIS Noor Cast members shed their tears over the injures and graves of the hundreds of thousands of the innocent people in the country, Iraq. They cry for the pain of every single person who is in danger, they cry for the death of their beloved people who sacrificed their lives for the sake of freedom and justice, and they, last but not least, cry to turn their tears to lighten the life of those people who are living in their dark homes.

On May 8, 10, 13, and15 the students of the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani will have their performances of the play, Noor, in the Fine Arts Building on the new campus of Sulaimani University. 

Qaiwan Group of Companies Offer Students Financial Support

Qaiwan Group of Companies is one out of many other group of companies, that provides financial support for the students and needy ones.

Qaiwan has helped many AUIS students financially so far. Qaiwan has offered a large fair amount of money for those AUIS students who can’t afford their tuition and other fees.

AUIS Will be Offering another Minor

 The Middle East Studies minor will be offered soon based at AUIS. The most interesting part of that minor will be IST 3XX/HIS 301 Special Topics in Islamic Thought.  This is a ‘special topics’ course which students could take again as long as the topic as specified in the title AND as recorded and preserved in the registrar’s office was different.  In that way, different instructors could teach topics of their own interest, and it would provide students the opportunity to study a variety of topics.

Shakespeare Iraq?

That's right. This project involves a group of Iraqi college students at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani who formed a Shakespearean company and are now invited to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. This was not what anyone had in mind at first. What began as an appreciation-type club was quickly overrun by the students' passion for doing a live performance. Last June, they did it -- an English-language Shakespeare production, not on a campus or Green Zone, but in a public theater -- the first of its kind ever in the country.

Soon afterwards, I did a radio interview on Bob Scheer's Truthdigg radio. An Oregon Shakespeare Festival subscriber was listening, and before we knew it, we were offered a one-week slot OSF's Green Show.

I looked over the AUIS's student's facebook pages, groups, and profiles.  The words, "Well, paying for printing sounds logical. Yet, what's ahead then..?" were posted by a student. "Even breathing costs money at AUIS; however, its aim is not making money." stated another one. "Paying for printing papers!!!toooooooooo fffffffuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnnnnnnnyyyyyyyyyy." wrote by another student. I read through each comment that was posted by other students beside of hundreds of the so-called "likes" to each of those statements. All I noticed was complaining and criticizing AUIS  for providing such policies.

Thank You All....!

I don't know how to start. I am experiencing the best moments in my life. Thus, I feel obligated to thank those who have provided me such moments. I don't know who I should put in the list of those who I MUST say thank you first. However, you all have the same value for me. Those whose names are in the bottom of my list are as much important as those who are first mentioned in the list. I thank you all.

I feel so obligate to thank all the wonderful people at AUIS. My professors, my classmates, and every single member of AUIS who challenged me and encouraged me to achieve anything so far and to be in the position where I am now. I thank you all in deep of my heart. It is all because of your encouragement that has provided me such achievements so far. I can't put all the words and gratefulness I have in my heart and mind right now. All I would like to say is that I am so grateful toward all the support you have provided me so far, I am thankful toward it, and  I will be grateful toward it forever. Thanks again. I owe you a lot!

A Delegation from AUIS Met with High-School Students in Rania

Saturday, January 28, 2012, (Rania, Sulaimani-Iraq)- A delegation from AUIS that was consisted of students and faculty staff members visited Rania and met with the students and teachers of both Kewarash and 5 Azar high-school. The AUIS representatives were Rosalind Warfield-Brown Director of the Academic Preparatory Program, Peter Friedrich, the head of the AUIS Drama Department, Sherihan Khalil, English Composition and Public Speaking IV's instructor,  Mahdi Kurdi, a Business Administration major sophomore,and Hayder al-Shakeri, the AUIS communication representative.

In a meeting that was lasted for almost two hours and  was held in the 5 Azar hall in Rania at , more than one hundred and fifty high-school students and teachers from both the 5 Azar and Kewarash high-school attended the meeting.

A few minutes ago, I went to the so-called Blue Café at AUIS with several of my friends. We were all starving! Each of us ordered a soup. I was the first among my friends who tasted the soup. I barely could tell my friends to not eat it because it had the terrible smell and taste. I felt like I was poisoned. We directly went to the owner and asked, “What is wrong with this food?” He very confidently responded and said, “There is nothing wrong with it.” I asked him to taste the food and see how its taste looks like. Thus, we all left the food without even touching it. The owner of the cafeteria very confidently said Good Bye without even apologizing!!! I don’t have anything more to say except the following.

These days, instead of shocking deaths and grieving losses, the Iraqi people are experiencing a new kind of dramatic situation. A group of the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani students is attempting to shine the candle of hope for all the Iraqis.

Here on campus, a group of of Kurds and Arabs, led by Peter Friedrich (the head of the AUIS Drama Department), Seth Voytek, Ryan Gorman and Zayne Amer is working hard to put Noor together.  These students are working hard in a precious window of time to rehearse the play, despite of the fact that they will not receive any academic credits.  They are trying to get rid of the troubled moments all Iraqis have faced so far. They are trying to bring a brighter and much better Iraq in 2012.

Xendan News and Media is seeking a dynamic and self-motivated individual to assist with adding and developing the English version of www.xendan.org. Responsible for translating Kurdish news reports to English around the clock. This job requires an experienced translator who can translate Kurdish reports into appropriate and well written English. These reports will be taken from the Kurdish section of the Xendan website. Only Main Kurdish reports will be translated into English. In addition, articles, interviews and letters may be sometimes required to translate. This may sometimes require someone who can work under pressure. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Create, develop and manage content for Xendan’s web presence

·         Ability to translate from Kurdish and Arabic, to English

·         Copyedit and proofread all English web content

·         Work cooperatively with key team members of other organizations

Qualifications and Competencies:

·         Minimum of 1 year experience

·         Technical experience in Microsoft Office

(Sulaimani, Iraq)- Thursday, November 17, 2011- A group of the American University of Iraq Sulaimani, Students gathered together to support the Syrian revolutions.

The event was held at the lecture hall of the AUIS campus.  

Dana Jaf, an International Major, chanted several mottos and songs enthusiastically and the students repeated them throughout the event.

Several speeches were given by the students during the revolution that emphasized the AUIS student's support for the freedom and justice everywhere.

Oct 25th, 2011, Sulaimani-Iraq- A number of the AUIS students announced a campaign to collect money for the victim's of the Wan event. Many students start posting their words on their facebook walls and calling to donate for the victim's of the event.

AUIS New Camps Lacks a Prayer Place

On Oct. 2, 2011, Classes began at AUI-S. The new campus houses conference rooms, lecture halls, and classrooms. The students seem to be very happy to attend classes at the new campus for it is by far much more comfortable than the old one, where the students had to attend the classes in the cabins that were known as "chicken houses". However, the new campus lacks one of the most important places for many students, which is a Mosque. It was true that there was not a mosque in the old one as well, but it was not a demand because there was a mosque nearby the campus where it took only few minutes for the students to get into and pray.

One of the AUI-S Faculty Staff Members Resigned from His Position

Aram Sabir, who worked as both sponsorship development officer and enrollment and financial aid manager at AUI-S since 2009, has declared his resignation from his position. In a status that he posted on his facebook wall, he indicated that he quieted his position for several reasons and would declare the reasons behind that soon.

"After careful thought and consideration," he posted on facebook. "I have decided to resign from my position as <Enrollment Manager> with <AUIS>! Soon, will reveal reason(s) behind my resignation. It was my great pleasure knowing and working with some of you."
