There are some people among the AUI,S faculty staff members whose hard works are difficult to be noticed even though their efforts have dramatic effect on the outstanding improvement AUI,S experiences these days. The Third Eye, as one of the prime channels where such voices can be heard, always tries to appreciate those hard-workers. We need to clarify for the AUI,S community about those who do their jobs as it should be and those who don’t. Today, Third Eye directs its extra eye to measure those who work well. However, that doesn’t mean the same eye will ignore the others. For sure, there will be the opposite description about those who do not do their jobs. We believe that people who do their jobs should be known and differentiated from those who just sit on their chairs and do almost nothing.

Welcome Back to the New Semester!

The Third Eye is pleased to warmly congratulate all the AUI,S students and faculty staff members for starting a new semester. We hope you all nothing, but best of luck with your classes and all the other activities.

We hope that the spring semester will be the best time for all of you to turn your dreams into reality.

The Third Eye has warm congratulations for  the new students who just enrolled to AUI,S and those who graduated in the Academic Preparatory Program (APP). We wish them best of the best with their classes and other activities.

Along with the support of the students, faculty and administration, the Third Eye is pleased to start its activities to help create the best environment at AUI,S where all its members feel nothing, but great.

Prayer Room Not a Threat to AUIS Secularism

The students seem to be very happy to attend classes at AUIS Campus as it houses comfortable conference rooms, lecture halls, computer labs, and classrooms. However, the campus lacks one of the most important places for many students: a prayer room. AUIS does not provide space for the daily prayers Muslim students must make-as other universities around the world do.

Many students and faculty staff members are forced to find temporarily empty classrooms to perform their prayers. It is difficult for the students to find a place without having to stare up and be looked down upon by across of other students when they pray. So, it should never be a problem a place on the campus for the university to set aside a small room where Muslim students and faculty staff members can pray without facing such problems. Since there is not a convenient mosque near campus where the students can go and pray, it is perfectly reasonable for the students to have a place on campus where they will be able to pray.

American-style liberal arts education has begun to flourish here, bringing not only intensive academic curriculum, but also the extracurricular activities attached to it.  So many students participate in clubs, societies, and sports activities; others establish new initiatives at AUIS. This makes me proud as a student.  When I see some of the head of these clubs manipulating the titles for their own rather than student and the university interests, that pride . The AUIS Model UN club is one such club.

Miss Elegance at the First Annual Miss Kurdistan Beauty Pageant Is an AUIS Student

Sulaimani, Kurdistan Region– In June 2012, Aveen Azad Khalifa, 22, was crowned Miss Elegance 2012 at Erbil’s Rotana Hotel. Azad’s title also means that she took the runner-up at the First Annual Miss Kurdistan Beauty Pageant. It is worth mentioning that Miss Kurdistan was Shene Ako,19, from Ranya, a small town in the Kurdistan Region, northeast of Sulaimani.Chosen from 12 contestants, Azad said her positions was more about hard working and setting an example for other young women to trust in their abilities rather than being beautiful and intelligent. Azad is currently residing in Sulaimani and studying her Bachelor Degree in Business Administration at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani. The Third Eye had an exclusive interview with her.

My Summer With IIPES

I participated in the International Institute for Political and Economic Studies(IIPES) at Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICH), in Chania, Crete, Greece this summer. Throughout the two-week course, I could successfully complete a challenging academic and leadership development program. Through the program – which included academic sessions, educational travel, and various academic and cultural activities – I learned a lot about various cultures, values and institutions.

You may all aware of a movie that has been produced recently which offends Islam, the Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him), and all the Muslims around the world. We, Muslims, are against any ideas that disrespects Islam and our beloved prophet(peace be upon him). Similarly, we have respect for all the other religions. We disagree with anyone who unethically behave toward any religious ideas. However, we should act responsibly when a person or a group of people hurts our feelings by saying bad words to what we consider as sacred, Islam and prophet Mohammad in this case. We should follow what Islam and our prophet teach us that is peace and brotherhood only.
