Dr. James R. Harrigan: “No student is obliged to live in the dorms.”

After The Rector’s Office sent out an e-mail that clarified the price of the new dorms, several students described that e-mail as a “shocking e-mail” and claimed that the price was just unexpected.
The Third Eye could contact with Dr. James Harrigian, The Dean of The Student’s Office, to shed some light on that e-mail.
In an interview with The Third Eye through an e-mail, Dr. James confirmed the decision and clarified several other points about that decision.
Dr. James said that it was absolutely up to the students to stay in the university houses.
“The students are not required to stay in university housing,” he stated.  “If they are uncomfortable with what is being charged for the rooms then they should, by all means, explore their other options.”
Several students didn’t believe in the decision when I talked to them. However, D. James confirmed the truth about the decision and said it was the final decision.
“I do not what it means “not to believe in” a decision,” he added.  “This was the decision made by the Rector in consultation with many other people.  It would not have been announced were it not the final decision.”
Dr. James also said that it was totally up to the students to choose the university dorms or explore other options.
“It costs a great deal of money for the university to build and run dormitories,” he added. “The amounts that have been determined are actually quite low given the local market, and represent a distinct value.  That said, no student is obliged to live in the dorms.  If people think they are too expensive they are more than welcome to explore other options in search of more agreeable and/or less costly accommodations.”

  1. One good option, the places around the new campus are all empty. Students can buy some tents and stay there.
