AUI-S Students toward another Demonstration

AUI-S New Campus- AUI-S website
After an e-mail from The Rector’s Office explained how the new student houses will be look like, the students were bothered and gasped by the high prices of the new dorms. Therefore, they decided to take actions against that decision.
The students are shocked by the price of the new dormitories because the price is too high compare to the amount that each student pays for the dorm fee now.

Each student pays $100 per semester now, but the amount that they will be charged next year is by far more than that price. According to the type of rooms where the students choose to live, they should pay between $320 to $750 per semester in the new dormitories.
“I was shocked when I heard such news like that,” said Hidayet Muhammed, who is an academic student from Rania. “Most of the administration’s policies have bad effects on poor students. So, these decisions that administration makes are not fair. they are trying their best to get money for the university from poor students instead of helping them.”1. How much is fair for AUIS to charge such large amount of money?
I was shocked when I heard such news like that because most of the administration’s policies have bad connotations on poor students. Some of them work outside the university to earn money for their tuition payment at a time they cannot earn enough for that they have to pay for dorms and books. At first, the university told us that the amount of financial aids will increase or dec…

Srusht Hamza, who is an academic student from Saruchawa, said that he was really disappointed about the decision and would not pay even a dollar.
“I am against that decision,” he added. “It is an evil and capitalistic decision. I have been promised to a scholarship. This means that I do not have to pay even a penny.”
Several students said that they would either leave the university or do not go to the new dorms if the university didn’t change the price.
“It is just a dream to pay that much amount of money,” said Zhirwan Aula, who is an academic student from Rania. “I can’t pay that sum. I had difficulty to pay only a $ 100 per semester, so how will it be possible to pay such a large amount of money per month! If the AUI-S Administration didn’t change its mind about that decision, I would absolutely be obliged to leave the university.”
Hamza added that he would rent a house with his friends instead of going to the new dormitories.
“We, a group of students, had decided to rent a house in Sulaimani,” Hamza exclaimed. “It is by far cheaper than the new dorms.”
Rekar Hussein, another AUI-S student, said that AUI-S Administration didn’t aware of the student’s situation.
"It is obvious that it is not the first time that AUI-S Administration passes rules to the university that only cause chaos. We all remember that only a few days ago an attempt to change the AUI-S name ended up with several protests. Raising dormitory fees is just another irrational law amongst many that AUI-S faculty has been passing these days. I am afraid that these absurd laws that are being passed in the AUI-S recently that our university administration suffer from a great problem which is unawareness of its students situation."ekar Hussein: " It is obvious that it is not the first time that AUI-S Administration passes rules to the university that only cause chaos. Some students start campaign to arrange a demonstration against that decision.
“I will lead the demonstration against that decision,” said Hamza.
The new student houses are arranged by both prices and type of rooms. There will be three different types of apartments with different prices according to the e-mail that The Rector’s Office has sent out recently.
A private room for a single student costs $180 per month. Apartments with two rooms for four students cost $105 per month for each student, and a flat with three rooms for six people costs $80 per month for each student.
The Third Eye will keep its readers updated with the forthcoming events about that issue.

  1. Good job, some students have thought about building tent campus around the new campus of the university! That is an alternative. We will of course have different plans unless the adminstration will change its policy. WE WILL OF COURSE NOT RENT OTHER HOUSES, NOR WIIL WE PAY THAT MUCH AMOUNT OF MONEY. BUT LIVE AROUND THE CAMPUS UNDER TENTS.....!

  3. That unthinkable decision is ridiculous. If we, including faculty and decision makers, think carefully and normally, we would see that students who live in the dorms are NOT rich, most of them. If they were rich, they would live in hotels and motels instead these dorms. University should/have to take the general scene of the situation of students who live in the dorms. I persionally can not force my family to give me money for BOOKS, DORMS, FOOD, CLOTHES...etc
